Chris Lateano
Executive Chef, South Water Kitchen
Growing up in a large Italian family, Chris Lateano, executive chef at South Water Kitchen, developed a passion for food at a young age. From helping his mother and grandmother in the kitchen to watching his favorite chefs on television to perusing farmers markets in his spare time, Chef Lateano's interest in cooking eventually led him to enroll in the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago, where he received traditional French training.
After culinary school, Chef Lateano moved to Las Vegas, where he worked with Emeril Lagasse at Emeril's and later with Wolfgang Puck at Spago. Gaining experience in these high-profile restaurants, Chef Lateano was able to shape his own unique culinary philosophy while learning from highly accomplished chefs.
When Chef Lateano returned to Chicago in 1998, he further honed his culinary skills in kitchens including Outpost restaurant, Grace Restaurant, Limelight Catering and Green Dolphin Street. In September, 2008, he joined South Water Kitchen, where he creates seasonal menus filled with locally grown ingredients
When he is not in the kitchen, Chef Lateano enjoys visiting local farmers markets and spending time with his family.
